Perineural Injection Therapy or Neural Prolotherapy is a regenerative therapy that employs a dilute concentration of dextrose/sugar to treat peripheral nerves via subcutaneous injections. While this form of therapy is referred to by some people as a form of prolotherapy in actuality it is not really similar in action to the classical Prolotherapy model described by Hackett and Hemwall which utilizes higher concentrations of dextrose and other biologic compounds to actually create an intentional site of irritation to incite remodeling of connective tissue.
A branch of this system of therapy addresses entrapped nerves by hydrodissecting the nerve under ultrasound guidance thereby freeing the nerve from the strictures of fibrotic and/or scarred structures which potentially would be only released via surgical intervention.
